James T. McGill became the chief financial and business
officer for The Johns Hopkins University in January 1998.
As the Senior Vice President for Finance and
Administration, he is President William R. Brody's lead
adviser on non-academic matters.
McGill came to Johns Hopkins from the University of
Missouri system, where he had been executive vice
president. He was chief administrative and financial
officer of the four-campus, 53,000-student system,
responsible, as he is at Hopkins, for finance, budgeting,
facilities, endowment investment, human resources and other
administrative functions.
McGill, a 1965 graduate of Oregon State University, earned
a Ph.D. in operations research from Stanford University in
1969. Before joining the University of Missouri in 1986,
he was vice president of Oregon Health Sciences University
and associate vice chancellor of the University of Illinois
medical center in Chicago. He has served on a number of
boards of university business officer groups and non-profit
institutions.
