James T. McGill, Jr. became the chief financial and business officer for The Johns Hopkins University in January 1998. As the Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration, he is President William R. Brody's lead adviser on non-academic matters.

McGill came to Johns Hopkins from the University of Missouri system, where he had been executive vice president. He was chief administrative and financial officer of the four-campus, 53,000-student system, responsible, as he is at Hopkins, for finance, budgeting, facilities, endowment investment, human resources and other administrative functions.

McGill, a 1965 graduate of Oregon State University, earned a Ph.D. in operations research from Stanford University in 1969. Before joining the University of Missouri in 1986, he was vice president of Oregon Health Sciences University and associate vice chancellor of the University of Illinois medical center in Chicago. He has served on a number of boards of university business officer groups and non-profit institutions.
