About Johns Hopkins

Hopkins Local Newsgroups

Please ensure that your Web browser (Netscape, IE, Lynx, etc.) knows about the Network News server. If the Internet address of your computer ends in jhu.edu then your News Server is news.jhu.edu. However, this news server is NOT accessible from outside the Hopkins network (jhu.edu). On Unix machines the News Server is usually set by defining the environment variable NNTPSERVER or something like that. For Netscape 4 it is set in Edit / Preferences -> Mail and Group / Groups Server.

If there are JHU newsgroups that are not listed here, please let us know by dropping a note in the Suggestion Box. To request creation of a newsgroup (e.g. for a class) or if there are problems with the news server, please send a complete and lucid description to Homewood Academic Computing's Support Services unit at support@jhu.edu or call them at 410-516-6888.
