Notice from the Homewood Parking Office

Valley Parking Lot to close Friday February 21, 2003 for construction of a new Homewood parking garage. Overflow parking lot for Homewood based staff to open Monday February 24, 2003 at Eastern campus, 33rd St. and Ellerslie Ave.

Below are answers to questions frequently asked about the impact of the closing of our staff parking lot in San Martin Valley:

Q. When does the Valley lot close?

A. The last day for parking on the Valley lot will be February 21, 2003.

Q. Will the closing of the Valley lot impact parkers who never parked there?

A. It may impact staff who has never parked there, as those early arrivals at the Valley Lot may park at other Homewood lots, reducing the number of spaces that have typically been available at 8:30 or 9:00am.

Q. What time will the staff lots at Homewood be filled by?

A. The Homewood staff lots will probably be filled between 8:15 AM and 8:45 AM.

Q. How will staff know when the Homewood staff lots are full?

A. Four large signs will be placed at critical intersections and entrances to parking lots to alert parkers that the Homewood lots are full. An attendant will be at the Stony Run lot (old R lot) when the Homewood lots are full to provide directions and a map to the Eastern Campus. Staff may also call 410-516-7275 by cell phone.

Q. Where should staff park when the Homewood staff lots are full?

A. When Homewood staff lots are full, card access parkers will be directed to JHU at Eastern attended lot, at the corner of Ellerslie Avenue and 33rd Street. New signs will be in place at the Eastern Campus to direct parkers.

Q. There are several lots and entrances at Eastern Campus. Which should Homewood based parkers use?

A. Driving East from the Homewood Campus on 33rd St., the first lot on the right after passing Ellerslie Avenue is reserved for Homewood staff. The Upper Lots at Eastern are reserved for Eastern hangtag permit holders.

Q. Will there be an attendant at the Eastern Campus, Ellerslie Avenue lot?

A. A parking attendant will be on site from 7am to 11pm Monday through Friday along with a roving Security vehicle as an added presence on the lots.

Q. How will parkers at Eastern get to and from Homewood?

A. Shuttle buses will run between the campuses throughout the day departing and returning to the covered shelter on the Ellerslie Ave. lot. A handy reference guide and timetable and shuttle stops is included with this mailing. These shuttles will run about ten minutes apart during rush hours and a half hour apart during midday. The parking office's courtesy van may also be called for transportation. 410-516-7275.

Q. Is there any special consideration for staff that may have midday medical appointments to keep?

A. The Parking Office will reserve ten spaces daily on the Garland field lot for medical reserve. Card access parkers with a medical appointment may request a one-day parking pass for one of these spaces by calling the Parking Office Service Desk at 6-7275. This courtesy parking will be provided on a first-come, first-serve basis, and the day pass will have to be picked up from the Parking Office the day before it is needed.

Questions regarding parking may be directed to Raymond Infussi, 410-516-7275. Questions on shuttle service should be directed to Lt. George Kibler, 410-516-6628.
